Nearly all furniture today contains some components made of MDF (medium-density fiberboard) instead of solid wood, and this has it's share, but it is still good and solid. It has dovetail drawer construction—which you don't see too often at this price point.
The assembly instructions don't tell you how to get the drawers out to assemble the unit. There's a built-in stop point on the drawers and I thought there was some kind of tricky release, but all you do is pull it straight back and it will finally yield. I was reluctant to use my Hulk-like brute force because I didn't want to turn green and possibly break everything. Turns out that wasn't necessary.
Like most people I bought two of these. One was in perfect condition, the other one had some QC issues. Specifically, two of the triangular corner blocks (braces) for the interior of the drawer cabinet section were disconnected and loose in the drawers. These are not mission essential components, and the unit would function okay without them, but they do add to the overall strength and rigidity of the end table.
I'm a handy sort of guy, so rather than let this spoil my afternoon I took the delinquent braces to my manly workshop. I pulled out the protruding staples, sanded off the old glue, drilled some holes for screws (because I'm don't have an electric staple gun) and reassembled them with glue and screws. Now it's good as new. . . or newer I suppose.
Because I have a bit of sweat equity in this end table I tend to love it more than the other one. I know this is bad parenting, but I'm just being honest.
