What is tableware?
Think of how you normally set the table for a meal. You’ll include what you need to eat and drink, such as plates, drinkware, and flatware. Then you’ll add the bowls, platters, and serveware needed to actually serve the meal. Everything that’s on your table at this point is tableware. Beyond the practical uses, tableware can look good too! Just like the art hanging on the walls or the light fixture above the table, tableware adds another element of style to the room by coming in a variety of colors and textures that fit seamlessly into any aesthetic.

What different materials are used for tableware?
Depending on its function, tableware can be made out of any number of materials. In dishware, earthenware and porcelain are suited to fine dining and special occasions, while melamine and vitrified glass are both highly durable for everyday use. Metals like stainless steel, copper, and zinc add extra shine to barware. Even flatware comes in different materials. The most popular is stainless steel, though some are silver or gilded. (Just don’t put those in the dishwasher!)

What is a full set of dishes?
A full set of dishes depends on how many people are in your immediate family, and the type of entertaining you do. Let’s say you have four people in your household. You would need enough dinnerware to serve four, including dinner plates, salad plates, bowls, and cups. This would be a full set of dishes. If, however, you have a monthly dinner party with three other couples, a full set of dishes would need to serve eight. Another option could be to mix and match two complementing sets of dinnerware.
