Frequently Asked Wall Art Questions
Wall Art by Ashley Furniture HomeStore
Hanging up wall art is the easiest way to make an empty wall go from drab to fab. Art can transform the feel of a room by making ceilings look higher, lines cleaner and spaces feel even bigger. With wall art from Ashley HomeStore, your walls can have interesting visuals and images that reflect many aspects of your life and personality.
Where to Hang Wall Art?
There are a few rules of thumb on where to hang wall decor. Oftentimes you’ll find framed wall art and decor above a sofa, on the mantle of a fireplace, in the dining room, along a staircase and above the bed. These placements are trusted and timeless, often creating balanced compositions for wall art. But that doesn’t mean you have to stick to these rules! In some homes, you’ll find wall art decor in hallways, bathrooms and offices. Your home’s walls are your canvas, look at them as an opportunity to showcase your tastes and sensibilities! If you’re still not sure how to arrange or place wall art and decor, we've got a blog that’s perfect for you.
Framed Art vs. Canvas Art
The one key difference between framed wall art and canvas wall art is framing. Generally, canvas pieces are just one canvas with a photo or painting. Framed wall art can be made with a variety of framing materials and finishes. Some are made with reclaimed wood, metal, mother of pearl and even composite materials.
What are the Different Wall Art Sizes
Generally, there are a few standard canvas wall art sizes that you need to know. Small decor is anything between 18 to 24 inches long. These pieces are best hung as pairs or in asymmetrical clusters. Anything between 24 to 36 inches long would be considered medium-sized wall art. Whether it’s a wall mirror with sculptural elements or a large piece of photography, these pieces are best suited as a stand-alone accent or as elements in a gallery wall. Large pieces of wall art are considered between 33 to 40 inches long and are generally mounted alone to create that classic, museum-style look. Anything over 40 inches long would be considered oversized, requiring a large, grand room to house the piece.
